Dr. Frieda Blackwell received her B.A. summa cum laude from Mars Hill College, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in Spanish literature. She has taught at Baylor since 1989 and in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core since 1996. Dr. Blackwell has published a book on contemporary Spanish novelist, Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, and co-authored a textbook on literary criticism and paper writing entitled Guía basica a la crítica literaria y al trabajo de investigación. She has also published articles on numerous figures in Twentieth Century Spanish literature including Torrente Ballester, Federico García Lorca, Soledad Puértolas, and Enrique Jardiel Poncela. Dr. Blackwell serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences, a position held since 1996.
