FAQs
What is the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC)?
The BIC is an innovative program within Baylor’s Honors College that offers an interdisciplinary alternative to traditional general education. Our curriculum connects ideas across disciplines, emphasizes critical thinking, and fosters a close-knit community of curious learners.
Who can apply to the BIC?
All incoming freshmen admitted to Baylor University are eligible to apply to the BIC. The program only admits students for the fall semester, so be sure to apply before your first year begins.
How do I apply to the BIC?
You’ll apply to the BIC through the Honors College common application, available in your goBaylor account after applying to Baylor University. Simply select BIC as your program of choice, complete the application, and submit it.
When should I apply to the BIC?
It’s best to apply as early as possible. The BIC accepts a limited number of students each year, and early applications have the advantage of being reviewed sooner.
What is the BIC Admissions Committee looking for?
The BIC uses a holistic review process to evaluate applicants. We’re looking for students who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, a passion for exploring diverse perspectives, and a strong commitment to academic growth.
Can I apply to the BIC if I’m also interested in another Honors College program?
Yes! You can apply to multiple programs within the Honors College. If you’ve already submitted an application for another program, email us to add BIC to your Honors College Application.
Is housing available for BIC students?
Yes, you can apply to live in the Honors Residential College (HRC). Please note that admission to the BIC does not guarantee HRC placement, as housing is limited and requires a separate application.
What makes the BIC different from traditional general education courses?
The BIC curriculum emphasizes active learning, small group discussions, and interdisciplinary exploration. Instead of relying on textbooks, you’ll engage directly with primary sources and connect classroom concepts to real-world experiences.
What are the benefits of joining the BIC?
BIC students gain a deep understanding of complex issues, build lasting relationships with peers and professors, and develop skills that prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives. Plus, you’ll join a supportive community that celebrates diverse perspectives and shared growth.
How will I know if I’m accepted into the BIC?
Once your application has been reviewed, you’ll receive a notification in your goBaylor account and an email from the BIC office. Be sure to check both regularly for updates.
